Sunday Musings

Blogger's been behaving badly this week.

Like a fussy baby who keeps demanding more food and is totally full and you just know they're going to urp if you keep feeding them, Blogger has been taking forever to load pictures (and never admits it's done) and insists it hasn't finished publishing for hours and hours and hours. In fact, it never exactly finishes. But the pictures are there (if I add the coding) and the entry is there, although the labels aren't always right and the stuff on the sidebar hasn't updated on every page but I'm giving up on that. I've visited Blogger's forums and there's a slew of us who FTP (if you don't know what it is you don't do it) who are having this problem. My take: you get what you pay for and since Blogger is free they are giving us a pain in the ass. Thank you Blogger!

Moving on to better things. . .

Yesterday, BigTea and I and our friend Karen (and her little dog too) went to Oxnard. It's becoming an annual trip for us, one I'd like to do more often. We bought strawberries from a fruit stand, and candles at La Gloria Supermercado, a place that feels like you're walking straight into Mexico. Then we went to the Maritime Museum, where I learned about the possibility of Chinese junks visiting America in the 15th century.

We were at at the Channel Islands Harbor--a strange deserted area that's quaint and lovely and . . . totally deserted. I took a few pictures of a restaurant that must have been a great place to eat once.

"A glass of cabernet, please?"

There are stories in there. I know it.

For dinner we went to Cabo Seafood and Grill and I had the most amazing and delicious fish enchiladas I've ever had in my whole life (this one or any other).

One of the best parts of the trip was that I sat in the backseat and wrote both to and fro. My Muse has always liked motion--even the bus, where I can't use my computer. Unfortunately, there's no car charger for the MacBook (Apple??). I have an adapter for my old iBook, so I guess that's what I'll use when I'm writing on the road.

So (to keep this post even longer and more rambling), this morning just moments after I woke up and logged on (doesn't everybody do that first thing?) I got pinged by The Boy who is in London and we chatted for hours while he uploaded his pix to Flickr (yes family, URL to come in email to you). It became a whole family chat and while he was uploading and the Tootz was tea drinking at her place and the BigTea was dishwashing at our place and I was in cyberspace tracking . . .

. . . they don't call me Hercule Poi-ginablack-rot for nothing!

The clues . . . he's near the Earls Court tube station in an "inter web," he called it, but he didn't know the name of the place. Gawd, I love my Google-fu. It wasn't long before I discovered he was at the

Internet Lounge,
24A Earl's Court Gardens, Earl's Court, SW5
Tel: 020 7370 1734

then I got my satellite trained on him . . .

Gawd I miss that boy.

There is a hook-up for mac-book in the car. You plug it in to the lighter spot, it has a plug slot for your mac-book wall plug. Actually it is just a plug for any electrical device.
Were you IMing with the boy ?? I can't wait to get the URL for his photos, which IM was he using ?? Send me that info when you send the URL. Thanks for his itinerary.

The world is getting smaller and a little spookier, isn't it? (Though I know your son wasn't trying to run away) Nobody's lost forever anymore!
