He's Leaving Home
Bye, bye . . .So he's not slipping away at the crack of dawn . . . he's being driven to the airport just after lunch.
He didn't need to leave a note at the top of the stair, although I did have to ask several times for a copy of his itinerary.
And it's not as if once he's gone he'll be having fun for the first time in his life--we have lots of fun here. But it will be different. It will be on his own terms. He'll be having his very own adventures.
And I'll miss him. A whole lot.
My nest will be empty for the next four months. I'm hoping to get lots of writing done. I'm hoping to have some of my own adventures with my dearest BigTea. Our courtship period was so short. He was already a daddy. This will be the first time we've had just the two of us together for a significant amount of time in twenty-seven years.
So, we'll be having fun too.

Awww, how sweet. Can you send me a copy of his itinerary ??
HAHAHAHAHA! I'll have to fax it or xerox and snail mail. It's a year-at-a-glance calendar with weeks circled and arrows pointing to almost legible names of cities. :)
Or you can just let me know when you hear from him :-)
Will he check for mail anyplace ??
4 MONTHS? Mine will be gone 4 days and I'll be nuts.
mary--yup four v-e-r-y l-o-n-g months. But he's been preparing us for this for over a year now, so that helps. And it helps that he has been very good about staying in touch and taking a gajillion of really wonderful photos and posting them on the web. So, in some ways I'm having a vicarious trip.
And I miss him like crazy still, but they grow up and leave and what can you do?
Four days is good practice. :)
