Chased Home by a Rabbit
On Wednesday, the day before we left Japan, the DH (a.k.a. the trip meteorologist) started mumbling about Typhoons, satellite maps, Kyushu (the island we were on), and Usagis. For those not fluent in Japanese, usagis are those cute little things with puffy tails. Who would think such an adorable creature would have anything to do with strong winds? Torrential rains? Disruption of plane and rail service?
This one did.
(Reuters) Aug. 2 - The fifth typhoon of the season has made landfall near the city of Hyuga, Miyazaki Prefecture, in south-western Japan. We could really feel it on the first flight too, which started in Fukuoka and ended in Nagoya. Bumpity, bump, bump, bump. Not my favorite way to fly.
Packing winds of up to 198 kph, the typhoon has caused travel chaos throughout the island of Kyushu, including disruption to train services and the cancellation of 200 flights.
But now I am home, having crossed the dateline, which means that I got two Thursdays this week. One was twenty-four hours, the other was sixteen. You would think that with all that extra time, I'd have accomplished a lot. Heh. Right. Instead, this means that as of today, Friday, I'm a sleep deprived zombie.
I am, however, well fed with rice, beans, and an enchilada. This is the one downside of Japan: no Mexican food.
Promise to blog more soon.
